BREAKING: Tres Tinkle (Oregon State) has been selected as a 2020 Professional Basketball Combine honoree. In 4+ seasons at Corvallis, the Missoula, Montana native accumulated 2,233 points, 882 rebounds, 374 assists, 196 steals, 69 blocks, and 18.9 win-shares.
Tinkle, a 3x First Team All PAC-12 selection, is one of the most accomplished prospects in the 2020 NBA Draft pool. The former RSCI top 100 recruit started 100+ games and averaged 17+ PPG over the course of his collegiate career, leading the conference in scoring, points produced, offensive box plus-minus, and offensive win-shares as a junior and finishing sixth all-time on the PAC-12 scoring list. He also ranks 3rd in the conference in defensive rebounds over the past decade.
Tinkle has a well-rounded skill set with a multitude of subtle, ancillary skills that could add value as a stretch forward at the next level. While known for his scoring prowess, Tinkle is a very high-level screener with the ability to create separation for the screenee, force help, and then punish the defense by popping or short-rolling for floaters, dump-offs, or kick-outs. Tinkle also has great feel as a mover without the ball in his hands, capable of shaking defenders, reading angles for screens/cuts, and getting himself open for his own looks, or to force defensive rotations that lead to open teammates. He is also quite capable of making quality decisions with the ball in his hands.
While the three-point shooting percentages may not be elite, Tinkle shot nearly 80% from the free throw stripe throughout his career and has shown quite capable as a movement shooter at his size. As his role transitions from that of the primary creator at Oregon State and the focal point of opposing defenses' scouting reports to a more complementary off-ball wing and secondary creator as a pro, it stands to reason that Tinkle could be poised for incremental efficiency increases as a shooter.
We are excited to welcome Tres Tinkle to the PBC family and look forward to all of his future success in professional basketball!
