We sat down with Charlie La Vine, a former PepsiCo employee and future lawyer. In 2018, Charlie took the initiative to lead the charge for our PBC Player Product Packages which were a huge hit for players, media, and staff. Various companies from all over the world participated including MVMT, FEAT, Thread Wallets, Deuce Brand, FWD Clothing and many more. As Charlie continues his career, we wanted to spend some time with him and see what makes him so valuable.
See what he had to say.
Q: Can you tell us about your experience with the PBC?
A: It’s certainly been an exhilarating experience so far. It’s given me the chance to network with exciting companies and align on mutual goals, assist in directing the day-to-day operations of the combine itself, and connect with highly talented basketball players and widely-respected NBA media members.
Q: Can you describe what an opportunity like the PBC represents to not only players, but also to NBA personnel and agents?
A: The PBC opens up so many doors for players in terms of not only exposure to NBA teams and scouts across the league, but also more encompassing things; like the ability to create connections with other NBA-hopefuls in similar circumstances, as well as offering a variety of off-the-court workshops to refine other aspects of the players’ careers.
Q: What is one way you believe working with the PBC will help you in your line of work?
A: There was such a wide variety of tasks that the team and I had to go accomplish last year, not in any way limited to a fixed set of roles, which allowed me to gain so many critical experiences. Some of these included remaining flexible when issues came up, taking on big leadership roles when necessary, and branching outside of my comfort zone and succeeding especially when it came to our social media during the event.
Q: What is one of your favorite memories of working with the PBC?
A: It was for sure being close by the side of Lavar Ball both days of the combine and letting him fill my brain with knowledge.
Q: If you could have dinner with three people, dead or alive, who would they be?
A: Derek Jeter, Kobe Bryant, Jay-Z.
